Character Name: Raine Whispers
Age: Late Fourties
Canon: The Owl House
Canon point: In the final moments of Kings' Tide. The draining spell has been interrupted by the Collector and Raine has taken Eda's arm to save her from her curse before passing out from the effects of the spell.
History: Wiki (Includes Spoilers)
Personality:
(-) Anxious
Raine's nerves are easily triggered, they have social anxiety so interacting with strangers is particularly hard for them. Even as a Coven Head they don't seem to get along well with most of the other Coven Heads just on the basis of barely interacting with them. They also have prominent stage fright, getting overwhelmed easily when put in front of a crowd. When they have to preform either scripted or unscripted they have a tendency to second guess themselves or crumble under the pressure.
(+) Clever
Raine is very smart, they've manufactured their own ways of using bard magic to alter chemical makeups using sound waves. They also managed to climb the coven ranks quickly without being discovered as a turncloak, at least for the longest time that is. On their own they figured out that Belos was planning to drain the isles of magic even before Darius and Eberwolf told them the whole plan. They also figured out that Terra Snapdragon was trying to brainwash them and figured out a way to prevent themselves from being inflicted by it.
(-) Martyr
They prefer that they be the first in the line of fire and the one subjected to danger before anyone else. They are ready to sacrifice themselves at a moment's notice, however risky a move that is or even disregarding the chances of another option, or if it would even work to begin with. Their lack of self preservation and jumping the gun could be a risk for themselves and others but they genuinely seem to think they're doing the right thing, playing the hero and all that.
(+) Protective
Raine cares about people as much as they don't like to interact with them under most situations. They care about the people of the isles enough to risk petrifaction and worse to save both wild witches and coven witches. They seem to care about the well beings of others more than their own, pushing people they love away to keep them safe, even if they want to help. Raine's protectiveness shows their compassion is often stronger than their nerves.
(+/-) Headstrong/Stubborn
They know what they believe in and firmly stand by their values. This headstrong belief in fairness and equality drove them to infiltrate the covens and rise in the ranks to help people despite the challenges and risks. Though they have anxiety and nerves, they are fierce in standing by what they believe to be good and moral. This means they are capable of standing up to just about anyone if they think it's for what they believe to be the greater good.
On the flip side this stubbornness means they are prone to making rash or risky decisions. Turning away help or pushing people away because they believe that the way they're doing things is the right way to have things go right, even if reasonably a different option may wield more successful results in the end.
Suitability:
Raine isn't quick to trust organizations or unknown authority figures, let alone one's they do know. The ADI will need to earn their real trust but Raine will be quick to get on board with helping them to figure out what is going on here, especially if they know the full stakes in play. Playing along with shows of cooperation and loyalty. To them, as far as they know they already failed to prevent one apocalypse back home, even if they can go home what is there to return to? This is a chance for them to prove they can help people and make things right, or at least die more heroically in the process.
Powers/Abilities:
Magic: As a witch Raine is able to cast spells using spell circles. This is because of a bile-sac attached to their heart. As a coven witch they can primarily cast spells using bard magic but they can also cast basic and utility spells using spell circles. Their bard magic is incredibly powerful however, changing the chemical composition of liquids using sound waves by whistling to near wild-magic levels of utility when using their violin. Some examples of utilities are sound waves as force to knock people back or cut through vines, conjuring weather effects as well as puppeteer-ing people though this can be avoided by covering your ears/muffling the sound. Their ability to do this however will be stifled unless they feed their Entity.
Conjuration: Raine can conjure their instrument from nothing. They have also been shown to conjure other instruments, including Eda's mandolin. It's unclear if they can only conjure instruments but it's what's shown. Their violin is their primary method of casting spells but they can conjure it and others using spell circles. Similarly, this will be restricted unless they feed their entity.
Entity Affinity: The Web
As the entity of manipulation and entrapment The Web and Raine are tied together for several reasons.
As far as fearing The Web, Raine despises the feeling of being manipulated or used against their will. From being lied to by Belos like the rest of the witches of the isles, to being manipulated and almost brainwashed by Terra snapdragon, to even their relationship with Eda Clawthorne where they felt they weren't being told the whole truth and being kept on the outside. Raine has dealt with feelings of manipulation throughout their life and they try to do what they can to take power of their own life back in what little ways they can.
Then there's the flip side. Being in service to The Web. As much as Raine doesn't like being manipulated they're actually very good at it themselves. From the literal puppeteer angle, being able to control people's bodies and movements using their bard magic against that persons will, to the more psychological. Raine for their poor acting skills has lied to people they care about, they tricked and manipulated Eda into believing they didn't remember meeting again, hiding the truth from her and keeping her on the outside. They don't enjoy it but they're good at working people to their advantage in both manners of speaking.
Inventory:
Violin: Though not on their person, they have a violin in magical hammer-space until they feed their entity and they can conjure it. As stated in the powers/abilities section, this violin is the chosen instrument they use to cast spells and command their bard magic.
